Rollicking fun. Towards the end, there’s just enough Heinleinian preaching in your underpants to make me roll my eyes, but the entertainment makes up for it. Fun.

Is there anyone doing words as music better than Brian Francis Slattery these days? He works tone rhythm and reference through so many angles that the music of the prose becomes a character of its own. Good story telling, too.

This is the second in a series of four books, but it stands alone fairly well. Over all, I preferred the story in the first book, but the pivotal conflict scene in this one was breathtaking. I wonder if it will retain its impact on re-read? But I’ll need to finish the other two volumes first. I’m looking forward to it.
